Restoration (Latin - restarriro - restore - the process of restoration and bringing back original appearance to antic objects, works of art, decorative art and architecture. Professional restoration has emerged at the time of accumulation of private collections of art, when it became necessary to extend the term of existence (functioning) of artworks.

The first mentioning of the restorers is dated to the Middle Ages, major schools of professional restoration began to take shape in the XVII-XVIII centuries.
